Kids With Cancer: How do Celebrities Deal With a Request from Make- A -Wish Foundation: Ringo Starr is a Winner, Celebrity Chief, Ina Garten a Loser!
John, Paul, George and Ringo Starr: "The Beatles" in America for the very first time in 1964
Ringo Starr
Ringo Starr is a very talented and busy guy. He had played the drums for the Beatles since 1962 after he replaced Pete Best who joined the group when they formed in 1960. Ringo was born on July 7, 1940 in Liverpool, England. Mr Starr had learned to play the drums when he was only 13. It was by boredom that made him lean how to play so well for he had TB and playing the drums gave him something to do when he was too sick to do the normal things that kids did. He had recently met up in Los Angeles with Make-A -Wish brain cancer survivor, Alexx Kipp from Arlington, Virginia. Not only did Ringo agree to meet the boy, but he also gave him a set of Ludwig drums. Every year the Make -A -Wish foundation tries to match up a celebrity or role model that the cancer stricken child would like to meet. There are 14,000 requests and 900 of them are tied to celebrities. Sadly, it was all over the Internet and on TV shows everywhere that so called, celebrity chief, Ina Garten had turned down a 7 year old who had cancer, not once, but twice that he wanted to meet Ms Garten. It was reported that the publicist stated that she was way too busy on her book tour. There were some stories that Ms Garten did not know about the request, but how is that possible if a publicist works for her? The publicist should be giving every detail of requests on a daily basis. Also, the incident happened twice and that gives it even more reason for her knowing. We cannot confirm if she did know about this boy, but will say that she should be ashamed of herself. No one should ever be above a child who has an illness. If Ringo Starr, who is a music legend has time, then any one can. I had interviewed Ms. Garten a few years ago in NYC just before she had launced her cooking show. As for little Enzo, the little boy who has leukemia and made his request twice went on to swimming with a dolphin. I am sure that will make him smile.
