Joseph Brooks, Writer of "You Light up My Life" Found Dead in His Upper East Side Apartment: Songwriter Found With Plastic Wrapped Around Neck

Joseph Brooks was found dead today in his apartment on the Upper East Side in New York City. He was 73 years old and had one son.  He was found by a friend who was supposed to have lunch with him and went over to Joe Brook's apartment on east 63 street in Manhattan.  The doormen were told that the friend could come up to the apartment.   Mr. Brooks was found with a dry cleaning bag over his head  and there was a towel was wrapped around his neck.  He was waiting for his trial to commence regarding his sex crime charges. Apparently, he left a suicide note, but no information has been released yet.  He also had a son  Nicholas,  who was arrested for the death of his ex girlfriend, Sylvie Cachay (a former fashion designer who worked for Victoria's Secret),  who was found dead in a bathtub at the Soho hotel. Nick is still in jail.  Brooks is best known for, You Light Up My Life sung by Debby Boon, and he also directed the film with the same name.
