Johnny Knoxville met Ryan Dunn in Pennsylvania when he was in need of some local guys who did some tricks on their skateboards and he wanted to film them for MTV's,  Jack Ass. The show aired from 2000-2002 on MTV and led the two into the film business with 3 Jack Ass Films.  The picture featured above is one that Johnny Knoxville had put up on his Twitter page.
