Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places (newegg, Amazon, Buy.com), but the Intel appears to be $50-100 more expensive than the M4.

I want to buy a zip and jazz drive USB or firewire 400 if they have SCSI aswell it would be a plus. Are all jazz and zip disks the same? I want these to access some old disco from like 1999.

i've got one for you, but mine is version '9.0.4' instead of '9.2.2' like the link above. also have the matching 'Software Restore' disc, and an 'iMac Applications' disc also stamped but looks to be later as it's a lighter shade of gray. i know that i used the disc to install 9.0.4 on a b&w g3, so this should work for you.
i've no use for them, if you want them, pm you mailing address and i'll slap a couple stamps on them and send them on. best of luck with the restore project.

The iMac Applications disc will be for 9.2.2 and X, however may work (It should have iMovie 2 for OS 9 on it if its the same disc I have - mine is from a G4/700 15" iMac, dated 2002 with iLife 3 for X and iMovie 2 for OS 9 on it), but it probably shipped with a G4 iMac, and if it has iDVD on it, that wont work (as well as all the X-Gubbins on those discs).

You'd think they'd actually TEST IT before releasing to the public. I've used Navicat with great success (gotta love that scheduler; though it deletes everything else in cron), CocoaMySQL is good, too, though needs an update.

Nice gadget, but what is up with the 'half-hat' design and the protruding metal bars from the skip?
The hat was just folded in half so people wouldn't have to actually put it on, and could just hold it up.

Hi all, I recently rebooted and have noticed a small blue "bubble" on my screen. It is transparent and turns opaque when you mouse over it. If you click on it, it activates the function usually assigned to the F10 key for Expose. I can move it around the screen like something from Konfabulator. I do have both Konfabulator and Growl installed, but they are both off right now.. and this thing still won't go away. Any help?

Seriously, I think the only real user-serviceable upgrades are the RAM and HDD. Beyond that, you'd be doing some soldering, I think.

that won't work in a mac pro unless you replace the heat spreaders, anyway. they have the standard jedec spreaders on them.

That's probably it then. You have to install RAM in the G5 in matched pairs, meaning same speed and capacity.
I have tried that, I have used 2 matching 1 gig strips and 2 matching 512mb strips, still no luck all I get is the fans start up, everything seems to be powered inside the box, fans, vid card fans working, nothing on the keyboard or the mouse. The power switch LED flashes twice about every 5 seconds, the front fan with the speaker seems to want to speed up then carrys on normally about every 10 to 15 seconds.

If by "too many times" you mean less than, say, 100, you shouldn't have any problems.
When purchasing a used computer, your best best is to do an erase and install of the OS, during which time you can select the installation options (such as languages, etc.) that you need. Most likely this will result in less disk space being used vs. more, depending upon how the system was originally installed.
Deleting system files manually is probably something you shouldn't be doing if you're not familiar with how everything works together.
