Mallika Sherawat was born in Rohtak, Haryana, India on 24th October, 1981 to a Jat family. Mallika went to school at Delhi Public School, Mathura Road. She has obtained a degree in philosophy from Miranda House, Delhi University. She was married to a Jet Airways pilot Captain Karan Singh Gill but divorced within first year of marriage.

Mallika is first Indian woman to get an offer to pose nude for Playboy magazine and appear on the cover. Mallika turned down the offer in an attempt to avoid the risk of being blacklisted in the Indian film industry. In 2003 she acted in Govind Menon's Khwahish (2003). In 2004, she starred in Anurag Basu's Murder (2004) with Emraan Hashmi. She received a nomination for Best Actress at the Zee Cine Awards for her performance in Murder. In 2005, she acted in a Chinese film, The Myth, co-starring with Jackie Chan. Her performance in the 2006 film Pyaar Ke Side Effects, won her praise from around the industry. In 2007 she appeared in 3 films Guru, Aap Ka Suroor - The Real Love Story and Welcome. For her 10 minutes appearance in Aap Ka Suroor - The Real Love Story she charged Rs.15 million. Her 2008 releases were Ugly Aur Pagli and Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam. Both films were unsuccessful at the box office. In 2010 her movie, Hisss was release in all major Indian languages on 22 October 2010. She was in news due to this due to her nude scenes in the movie. In 2011, she appeare in item number in movie Thank You (2011). She also appeared in item number in movie Bin Bulaye Baarati (2011). Her comedy film Double Dhamaal (2011) was released on 24 June, 2011. Due to Double Dhamaal (2011) she was popular as Jalebi Bai.
