A Pre-Wedding Night Out

I said a few days ago I would post pics of my night out on Saturday. After the fabulous afternoon to celebrate our wedding in 2 weeks, Nicks sister and brothers partners took me out for the night. It was an unofficial hens night I guess, we'll be doing a night out in Rarotonga before the wedding, but this was a small celebration at home.

Nicks sister rented a pretty awesome apartment right in central Wellington and the night went from there!

After we finally got in to the apartment, 5 girls....we had issues with keypads and doors with out signs and a general lack of direction where to  collect the key. Anyway we finally got in and left...for dinner!

We settled on a Chinese restaurant that was BYO. Ok...the BYO was the most important thing! Does anyone know what the yellow things in the dish are? I'd really love to know so I can make sure I never have them again. The rest was delicious...but the yellow things...not so much.

We ventured to the supermarket for necessities and I got to continue playing with my new camera.

I thought I was safe when we got back to the apartment...I mean it was close to midnight. I was totally ready to sleep lol. Such a party animal I am... but no apparently after having some lazy wines it was time to go out.

This was taken sometime between 2 and 3am...

We finally made it back to the apartment about 4.30am, after a stop at a random pizza place...and crashed on the couches. My feet were killing me...but at least my shoes were cute!

So anyway....thanks Angela, Anna, Nicola and Jess for a fabulous night out. I really am looking forward to being your sister.

I'm absolutely spoilt.

I had a fantastic day on Saturday and was so pleased to see everyone at the afternoon tea.
Everything went smoothly, there were no cringe worthy games but there were a few fun ones, that everyone loved. I really should scan and upload some of the dresses that people designed for me to wear. Some of the drawings are hilarious. There was delicious food. Actually the food you just need to see! I was very spoilt.

Amazing biscuits thanks to Nicks Sister

Absolutely gorgeous cupcakes thanks to our close family friend Gail .  The stand was my present to keep! (as well as the cupcakes)

I was even more spoilt though, Nicks sister and family were kind enough to decorate a glass for everyone. They painted them with blue and added gold hearts. They looked amazing for everyone to toast with, and take as a keepsake. They added a white ribbon to the base with the date 2.7.11.

Apparently on Friday night they were all in the kitchen. I had no idea and went into the kitchen to use the computer. Nick followed me through and was apparently blocking them from my sight the whole time. I had no idea lol.

And of course an obligatory picture of me. I decided to wear a black ruffled dress that shows off my boobs and a berry coloured cardigan. Actually the cardigan is the exact colour of OPI Dim Sim Plum, which I wore on my nails!

I hope all the Americans are having a fabulous 4th of July. I know I've been feeling inspired to do a stars and stripes mani after seeing all the gorgeous 4th of July nails!

Well I slept in today and have been running late all day now.

I gave up on the idea of going out, I was running too late, and have since spent the day at the computer.
I've been working on a drawing for school and a logo for my parents.

I hadn't used my tablet in a while...So I had a little play around to practice.

Wedding Nails...I decided!

Well I finally decided on wedding.
I wanted something slightly different, not totally a french manicure, a bit of sparkle, something that had a name I loved, something a bit special and most importantly something beach appropriate...

I think I've found the perfect polish!

BB Couture Tink Pink

It's perfect! So pretty and delicate and girly. I've emphasised my tips using China Glaze Snow. I'm not sure if I'll do that on the day...I'll have to have a play with different white combinations and underwear polishes. Please click the picture to see the amazing glitter that made me fall in love with Tink Pink. It has a stunning greenness to the glitter. It's spectacular. And the name...Tink Pink...it links back to my love of Disney :)

Wedding Songs and Finally Some Swap Polishes

Well my wedding is now 8 weeks away, so I was talking to mum when she asked me what songs I wanted...

Umm...opps! I hadn't even though about songs. The only one I'd thought about was the first dance. I just hadn't registered in my brain that I needed more songs.

So I did a bit of googling...and found out you need a billion different songs. (ok slight exaggeration)

Prelude, processional, bridal entrance, in service, interludes, recessional, first dance, father daughter dance and last dance. I probably missed out some.

Well I told dad he could decide on the father daughter song, but I'm cringing at the idea he'll end up choosing Butterfly Kisses. I know he loves the song...but does anyone else just think it's cliche now?

The first dance song is going to be A Whole New World...seeing as apparently (according to everyone else) Beauty and the Beast isn't appropriate. Even if it's just the instrumental :(

But I have no ideas for other songs. So help! What songs did you have at your wedding? What songs are you having at your wedding? What songs would you have at your wedding?

Nubar Wedding Possibilities

Ever since we got engaged...2 whole months ago...I've been on the look out for the perfect wedding day polish.

We're getting married on July 22nd, the middle of our winter. But we're going to Rarotonga...sunshine!
So my hands will be pasty, but I need something summery...
For some reason getting the perfect nail polish is really important to me, even though I have no idea what I want!

I ordered some Nubars to test and they arrived a few days ago.

Blushing Bride, Pink Cami and Tulle

None of the polishes turned out how I thought they would, and I don't think they're my 'wedding polish'.

Pink Cami. 3 coats.

As you can see Pink Cami is very sheer. Very pretty, but very sheer. It's a very soft delicate pink with slight green shimmer. It might work better if I did a french manicure, but my nail tips are so long compared the rest of my nail I always feel a little weird about doing a french.

Blushing Bride. 2 coats.

Blushing Bride is such a pretty pearly, shimmey pink. It's too pink though! Well too pink for a wedding polish for me. That's not going to stop me wearing it when ever else I can. I really do like Blushing Bride, it's just not my wedding polish.

Tulle. 2 coats.

Tulle is a very pretty glitter. It'sslighty yellow based, so brings out the yellow in my nails when worn alone, but it is a stunning layering polish. Tulle is a very sweet fine glitter. Just like a sugar coating!

Fiji Fling

When we were thinking about islands to get married on, one we immediately thought of was Fiji. We even narrowed it down to one resort that was perfect. We had been emailing them starting to organise things, when we realised...Fiji is kind of a dictatorship right now. New Zealand defence force are not welcome. My brother is a medic in the NZ Army. They wouldn't let him in to the country.

Before we canned the idea of Fiji I bought myself China Glaze Fiji Fling. A gorgeous shimmery pink. It was such a nice vibrant colour I wondered what the other polishes in the Fiji Collection were like. I tracked them all down. And wow. It is an amazing collection. So bright and cheerful and definitely puts you in holiday mode.

Bare if You Dare: A pretty peach shade with gorgeous golden shimmer. All of these colours glow in the sunlight.

I wanna Lei Ya: I love the name of this! Considering it for my wedding day toes. I also love the coraly pink and silver shimmer.

Fiji Fling: Crazy bright pink with pink shimmer. It looks so washed out here, I might need to takea new pic, but I love the polish I'm wearing right now!

Hot Lava Love: Red with pink shimmer.

Coconut Ice: Purple with shimmer. In person this looked all purple with purple shimmer. The pink looks good, but not accurate from my memory!

Tantalise Me: I'm so surprised by this polish. I expected it to be sheer, I expected to hate it. It's not sheer and I love it. I'm wearing it right now and I don't want to take it off. Look at that blue shimmer! So pretty.

Beauty and the Beach: Shimmering blue/green.

Passion in the Pacific: Shimmering green/blue.

I think the Fiji Collection is a very pretty collection that doesn't get enough recognition. It's like sparkling tropical jewels. I didn't expect to love every colour, but I do. Bare if You Dare surprised me. It's amazing in sunlight, not to mention Tantalise Me which everyone needs to own!

Dissapointing...

I ordered a bunch of Essie nail polishes trying to find a good wedding polish colour.

Unfortunately I didn't find one. The formula on the Essies was good, most were jelly like so applied so easily and smoothly. But the colours and the amount of coats I needed for full coverage were disappointing. I have very white nail tips and they took a lot to cover with the Essies.

Rock Candy: 5 coats. It's a pretty pale pink, but blah. Not what I want.

Happily Ever After: 4 coats. Honest this is four coats of polish. It has a pretty shimmer and would be a nice french polish, but again not what I wanted.

Petal Pink: 4 coats. Only slightly more pink than Rock Candy. Too similar for me, and too not what I want.

Nude Beach: 4 coats. Pretty shimmer. Pity about the emphasis on my less than perfect nails.

Beach Party: The only one I'd say applied like a true cream, and therefor was not as nice to use. Pretty pink, but standard. Oh and also not really a wedding colour.

Demure Vixen: 3 coats. I needed another. It's pretty and subtle.

Turquoise and Caicos: 3 coats. Pretty colour, more green than I expected. Though it's not one I bought for a wedding colour! I just wanted it.

Marshmellow: 3 coats. Pretty soft white. I actually like this one, it makes my nails look fresh.
